HMD Global releases Kernel source code of Nokia 2
Nokia Mobile updated their “Open Source” page on May 10, 2019, where the company provides source code obligated by the GPL, LGPL and other open source licenses. The list contains most Nokia smartphones, with the Nokia 2 being the latest addition.Screenshot of Nokia Open source release Page
This release by HMD global includes source codes for both Nougat and Oreo. Nokia2_V1.16D is the Oreo release and Nokia2_V0.68I.tar.bz2 is Nougat.
The Linux kernel used in Android is licensed under GPL, which requires companies to release their modifications. The kernel source package can be used to more easily create custom ROMs and recoveries for the phone, but since the Nokia 2 can't be (officially) bootloader-unlocked, the source code is more or less just to fulfill GPL obligations
